Do you like making things for people around the holidays? There’s something really special about homemade gifts. While your kitty may not be as sentimental about her present as a friend or family member would be, she’ll still appreciate some DIY gifts. A Jacksonville, FL vet suggests a few good ones in this article.
As far as Fluffy is concerned, you can just never have too many beds. You don’t even have to sew them: just put a pillow or soft blanket in a wicker basket, hard-shell hatbox, or suitcase.
If you’re up for a bit more of a challenge, consider making Fluffy a cat tower. One way to do this is to repurpose an old wooden stepladder. Put smooth planks on the steps to widen them out. You can also do this with a sturdy bookcase or storage rack. Add carpet or sisal rope as covering.
Florida’s sweltering heat can be rough on cats. One thing that may help keep Fluffy cool is a kitty hammock. You can easily make one just by attaching a piece of fabric to the legs of a table, using Velcro or even twine.
Cats are much safer indoors. However, they will still enjoy and benefit from the entertainment and stimulation of watching birds, squirrels, and whatever else happens by. Make Fluffy a comfy window seat. You can use a smooth plank to widen out your windowsill, and then attach a shallow wicker basket. Put some soft bedding in it, and tell Fluffy not to use it. Voila!
This one is quite simple. You don’t actually have to make a mouse shape: you can just sew a tiny square, fill it with catnip, and then close the gap. If you want to go all-out, you can cut the fabric into a mouse shape. You can even find patterns for kitty toys online.
This one makes a great project for kids. We all know that cats like boxes. Your feline overlord will be quite happy with her own little castle. For a simple one, just connect two boxes together. If you really want to pamper Fluffy, go for a more complex design, and add balconies, turrets, towers, and multiple levels.
